Home Inspirations

I love that I still get to share my home inspirations with you guys.
Just now it only takes up one post a week instead of all of them.
Blogging is so much fun!
Check out these things which inspire me!

So need to get some of this chalkboard paint.
The number of ideas for this stuff....
Yes! Porches are my favorite.
Among many others.
Never would have thought to try stripes on the ceiling.

Quite possibly my favorite boy nursery design.

This is beautiful! I might eventually need to get some curtain holders for the living room.

YES!!! Someday my house might need this!

If this were my bathroom, I would want to be a fish.

What a glamorous way for me to always be able to find my keys.

You know that frame which you so want to throw out because you think it looks bad.
Yeah...this one's for that.
Love them!
They make me want to go paint a room in my house or something!
(I'm scheming about that for the Spring - more on that soon!)

{On my Heart} Again. [Disciplining Children]

I work with a number of different families throughout the week and each family has its own schedule, rules & ways of disciplining children.
It is awesome to see such a variety of families and the way they raise their children.
Watching these children, so many different techniques come up: time outs, supernanny tips, hand flicks, spanking.
One of my own observations is that each children responds in different ways to whatever form of discipline you are using. Just as each of them has different personalities, they each respond differently to the same form of punishment.

This can be a challenge when one form of punishment appears harsher than another,
but it works for one child and not the other.
I try to always make the punishments fair if they are needed when watching the kids.
But it is a challenge at times.

Consistency is such a huge factor when raising kids (or watching other people's).
They are always trying to figure out how much control they have over the decisions in their lives.
Usually not much. But they will test you to see how much control you will let them have.
Their behaviour is more challenging when their boundaries move
because they test their level of control.
The more tired I am when watching the kids, the more I struggle to be consistent with disciplining them. This of course means they might test me more. Not fun when tired =)
As I am not their parent, I may be more limited in the way I discipline them as I am only there to fill in while their parents are elsewhere.
But as I have worked with these families over time, I have noticed these general observations about all nine of the kids.

It has been such a blessing to see these different families doing life in their own unique way.
I have learned so many things about how to raise children before even having my own.
I am so thankful they trust me with their precious little ones. They truly are a blessing in my life.
The more time I spend with them, the more I see flaws in myself as well.

This past week little L tried to put on his favorite CD
while I was fixing the baby lunch in the kitchen.
He must have struggled to turn it on (although had done it before)
because he turned the volume up way too high.
When the music came on full blast...
he ran into another room at the back of the house sobbing.
After running into the living room and turning off the CD player,
I headed to the back of the house where he was shaking and sobbing really hard.
Whilst discipline may have been appropriate in this situation,
I felt compassion for this scared child (much the way the Lord does for us).
I scopped him up and held him, he then sobbed 'I'm sorry! I'm sorry!'
It reminded me of myself before the Lord when I am disobedient or get something wrong.
I cry out to Him telling Him how sorry I am
and how scared I am by the outcome of what I did.
So I continued to hold little L and console him much the way the Father would me.

'...Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.'
{2 timothy 4:2}

We talked together about little L's behaviour (disobedience) but there was no punishment this time.
There is a time for grace,
even when the human side of me might want to punish because I am frustrated with him.
Most of the time their disobedience has nothing to do with what they are being asked to do (or what not to do). It is about them trying to figure out how much control they have in life.
Just like we do before the Lord and discover, we don't have much.

The more of my time and energy I devote to these little ones, the more they teach me about the Father and my own disobedience.
They show me my weaknesses & flaws, where I am inconsistent in my life.
The more I pour into them the more I learn how to die to self and serve these families well.
Even if my week is crazy busy full of activities with these precious little ones,
I am content.

'I Would like to be able to say that I always do exactly what the Lord asks of me.
I would like to say that I always seek Him first when a difficult situation presents itself.
While I am getting better at it, sometimes I don't.
Sometimes I still think what I do with my life should be my decision.
God asks, and reasons, and encourages.
He gently explains that I do not know what is best for me and that I do not always get what I want.
And I just look at Him, not understanding at all what He's trying to say.
Sometimes I even whine and sob and shriek, just like a tired, angry three-year-old...
...As I kick and scream and struggle, I remember: I like being in the center of God's will for my life.
God's plan is usually pretty great.
It is a whole lot better than mine anyway.
I am so glad that He does not allow me to win.'

{On My Heart} Mondays. [Heart's Desires]

Lately I have had a lot of heart's desires on my mind.
The Lord created me with some many different interests.
I'm in love with crafting things (check out my Etsy store), taking pictures and children, among many others.
Sometimes I even get to combine all these passions in one activity which makes me very happy.
Lately I have had such a heart for children and adoption.
It has been slowly working its way in for the past few years, I have no idea why.
After finishing reading Katie's book, Kisses From Katie, I was feeling sad it had finished. Mainly because I can understand her in so many ways.  I fell in love with Africa when I was 19 but have not yet been able to return. Life took me on a different adventure, the Lord took me on a different adventure
So having this heart for adoption at such a time in life when adoption is not possible, I was discouraged and asking the Lord why He had given me desires for things which are not possible. Why not give me a stronger desire to work with children (I already am). Or another desire which could be possible with where we are in life.
Maybe because that wouldn't require any faith at all on my part.

'Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.'
{Psalm 37:4-7}

The Lord shall give us the desires of our heart when we delight ourselves in Him.
If these desires are from Him, then He longs to fulfill them. He is a good God.
He does not care about my being comfortable with where I am, with wanting only desires which are easily fulfilled. He knows I long to grow in Him, often that requires stretching my faith so that I trust Him more.

This verse is a reminder to wait patiently for the Lord. How difficult I find this at times.
He completes things in His time and not mine. So even if He gives me His heart for something, I may have to wait patiently for a while before seeing that be fulfilled.

When I was sixteen, I was in love with a brown-haired, blue-eyed boy.
I didn't think I could love any other boy more than him. He was everything I wanted in a husband. He was my best friend at the time.
I remember sitting in my room crying out to the Lord in frustration over our ages and how difficult the feelings we had for each other were at such a young age.
The Lord clearly answered my cries with
Yes, he is the one. But you will have to wait patiently for him.

That was the first time I ever distinctly remember hearing from the Lord like that.
I felt an immediate sense of peace and even though the following years took us through some incredibly difficult times and everyone around me said we would never marry each other after all we went through.
I remembered the promise from the Lord and never doubted that He had said yes those years ago to the young girl crying out to Him.
When that same brown-haired, blue-eyed boy pursued me after not talking at all for a year with the intention of courtship leading possibly to marriage, I knew the Lord had kept His promise.
I waited seven years from Him whispering to me His answer, to marrying the boy who won my heart. The Lord was in every step of our story, working things for His glory

'Because you are precious in my eyes,
and honored, and I love you....'
{Isaiah 43:4}

The Lord loves us and considers us precious. He works all things to our good. Even the things we don't understand while walking through them.
At times, He asks us to wait patiently for Him.

'I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.'
{Psalm 40:1}

'But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.'
 {Isaiah 40:31}

'We do not want you to become lazy,
but to imitate those who through faith and patience
inherit what has been promised.'
{Hebrews 6:12}

Do not grow discouraged my friends. If you have been given the Lord's heart for something.
He is working it all out for His glory & He will bring it to pass in His way.
We don't know the answer in every situation but we know He asks us to wait for His timing.
Waiting on the Lord leads to beautiful God-orchestrated stories. You will never regreat the outcome of waiting on Him.
Do not be tempted to rush ahead and make rash decisions, trying to write the story yourself.
Only in His timing are beautiful stories orchestrated.
And when they are, they are like fingerprints of heaven on earth.

I'm in love with fashion, Friday.

Who doesn't love friday.
Especially when you know that the weekend is wide open for fun things with the hubby.
This might be our first relaxing weekend this month.
I plan on enjoying it.

So...a lot of these remind me of the fashion style in Oxford (yes, the real one in England).
Maybe some of it rubbed off on me =)

I am SO in LOVE with all flower hair accessories (and hairbands) currently.
If you make any awesome ones you would like me to try or know of any....let me know =)

These two picture got the preppy elegant look down =)
Love it!

Would love to have this outfit.
So great if working or going out =)
Super cute, feminine and dressy.

This make me SUPER HAPPY.....I never know what to do with my hair.
Althoug hI couldn't pull off half of these well....they help me try and attempt to do something creative with my hair.

This is more my usual style =)

This is great as spring is approaching and I can pull out my light scarves again =)
Yay for Spring!!!

'Two Hearts In Love' Thursdays. [Let them eat cake]

That's right...Today's post is all about wedding cakes. Yum!
I am linking up to Britt @ The Magnolia Pair for her wedding cake link-up party.
This tied in perfectly with my weekly post about Wedding planning.

This post also brings me much joy as we just came back from a wedding in TN and so we still have lots of their wedding cupcakes.
The leftovers have significantly decreased, but they are still in our fridge.
They had lots of miniature cupcakes instead of one big cake.
And tons of leftovers = great for guests who stay till the very end.
Oh baby we totally drove home (all 10hrs) with those in the car.
Several may have been consumed along the way. *cough* notme *cough*

So what tips to share about wedding cakes.
I found a picture of mine in a magazine just before we got engaged.
I was over at Erin's (SweetnessItself) gorgeous house for a visit & we were totally looking through some bridal magazines (just for fun!).
Then I lost the picture but I was able to sort of describe how I wanted it to look to A's cousin who so sweetly made it for us. Not quite the same as the picture but still pretty simple and cute.

This was an amazing way to save money.
Find a friend/relative who is an awesome baker and have them make the cake.
Lots of people are totally getting into this skill.
Or another way is to just have one layer of real cake from a bakery & then use styrofoam to make the additional layers for that dream 7 layer cake you've always wanted.
Much you can always buy sheetcake from Costco to use to serve your guests. will know. Or care cause most cake is pretty good.
Love the monogram cake topper!
The other factor when choosing a cake is your cake topper.
If you want a specific topper, (I chose a figure from the Willow Tree collection to keep afterward) you will want to keep that in mind when picking a cake to go with it.
My sister wants something like these cuties in mind.
I think they are adorable.

Cakes are pretty flexible depending on your budget.
You can totally go all out and spend a bunch at a fabulous bakery if your budget allows.
Or use some of the cheat-ideas if need be.
I would recommend trying the cake at the bakery before ordering anyway =)
(Maybe you can bring along your own ice-cream.)

You can also use the new idea of a mountain of cupcakes instead of the traditional cake.
Makes it easier for guests to help themselves.
You may have to negotiate with the venue as to whether they will reduce their fee if they aren't serving your cake.
You never know.

I leave you with some inspiring cakes!!!

You can even theme your cake after your wedding colors.
Don't forget to enjoy your planning!
Head over the Britt's blog & check out some other ideas.
Much Love,
P.S. I reach 10000 pageviews yesterday! I'm flattered that my blog has been looked at that much! Thanks guys for reading!

Home Inspirations

I started out looking through some picture frame pins.
I was totally going to share those.
But then found myself dreaming of garden things.
Especially since this mild weather seems like it's going to continue.
I totally want to try some of these this year.

 Totally tried this last summer.
The squirrels thought my plants were too tasty so I ended up with stones and no plants.

 This is awesome!

What garden doesn't need a place for the fairies! =)

Until Summer then....indoor camping perhaps?
